#ess14 on twitter. This was a teacher’s conference in San Mateo on eLearning Strategies Symposium. At first, I was confused of what was going on and it was thanks to @billselak who informed me that I was attending a conference and he helped to catch me up on what we were learning. @amyburvall was talking about breaking free from traditional teaching and having students to learn on their own and to become creative. From this keynote, I learned more about flipping the classroom and creating assessments where students can become more creative and the teacher allows students to self-explore. @amyburvall also discussed that we can have students to become creative with the use of technology. She talked about “Whitespace”. This term refers to graphic design and having students become creative with technology. @amyburvall said, “Our students need opportunities to play with #media - let's embed into curriculum #transmedialiteracy #ess14”. I feel that she is saying that the more students are exposed to technology and how to use it; students will be more open to learning and exploring.
Having this experience open me up to using twitter and tweet deck more. I was able to network more with professionals and learn about different practices and methods. The use of twitter does make it easier to become more a part of a community of likeminded individuals. The nice thing about running into this conference, it gave me time to stop my day and reflect on my thoughts and believes. I was able to meet new people, that I would had never gotten the opportunity to meet. I am looking forward to attending #edcampelrio in April and CSUCI teacher’s conference in April as well. If I am able I want to attend CUE, if not I now know I can always attend it through twitter!
